Using themes is one way to simplify kid’s room decorating. There are so many decorating ideas, where do you start?
First, think of the person you are creating the room for. What are his/her interests? Maybe there is a particular character from a book, or television show. The person you are designing the room for may have a special hobby, interest or favorite sport. Look through books, mmagazines and even online to find a theme that best suits the person whom you are decorating for.
Once you pick out the theme, you need to coordinate the color of the room within the theme. Think about the color(s) that go along with the character, sports team, etc. You can shop for paint, wallpaper, or borders to reinforce your theme. Choose a background color for the walls that accent your theme. Select coordinating fabrics, prints and accessories that go along with your theme.
Create a focal point in the room. Use a Monster Cling on one of the bedroom walls that enhances the whole theme of the room. For example, if your room is designed around a race car, have a 6 foot Monster Cling made of a favorite driver or the driver’s car.
Make sure you plan for growth. In no time, your cute baby will be a toddler and then going off to school. Monster Clings are easily removed, unlike wallpaper or borders. So when your child is ready for a new theme for his/her bedroom, just peel off the cling and get a new one!
Choose bedding and window treatments that will enhance both the color and the theme of the room. A good rule to follow for a themed, coordinated room is to repeat each color, fabric, and print (if possible) in at least three places around the room. If you do, everything will really tie together. When it comes to children’s bedrooms and bedroom themes, the sky is the limit.
